The range of industrial applications for precious metal wires is wide and varied. They are used in gas detection, sensors, lamps, pH meters, electrophoresis, contacts, furnace elements, spark plugs, vacuum seals, jewellery, fuses, resistors, the production of turbine blades and medical applications to name but a few. Johnson Matthey produces many different precious metal wires and their alloys in a range of diameters to suit your needs. The purest grade wire available is made to your specification in our modern factories in Royston near Cambridge in the UK, and at West Chester near Philadelphia in the USA. Wire is delivered in coils, straight lengths, cropped pins or on a wide range of reels. Precise hardnesses, tensile properties, elongations or resistances can be specified at the time of order if required.

All materials are commonly available as wire in the range of 0.050 mm – 25.0 mm diameter with the exception of pure iridium and rhodium (from 0.25 mm – 5.0 mm). Smaller sizes of some materials (are available) on request. We work to the highest quality standards and have BS EN ISO 9002 Part 2 , UKAS, CAA, Ford Q1 and Rolls Royce approval. This ensures that our manufacturing processes and hence products are reproducible every time. In-house die maintenance and the use of laser micrometers guarantees that wire diameters are reliably maintained. There are numerous alloys available with established production routes compiled by Johnson Matthey over many years. Our team of metallurgists can provide technical support and recommendations on the suitability of different precious metal wires for your application.

RANGE OF MATERIALS IN THE PURE FORM:

Platinum, Palladium, Iridium, Rhodium and Gold – see purities below.
